Action in the Footsteps of Saint Paul
16th June, 2009 - Posted by Sister Barbara -
Please welcome to the blog, Sister Barbara Murray (read about her in About the Bloggers), who will be leading us virtual pilgrims into reflection, prayer and action as we seek to apply what we have learned from tracing St Paul’s steps with Archbishop Mark, Archbishop Francis, Neil Harrigan and the rest for the pilgrimage group!
Her first post on ‘Action in the Footsteps of Saint Paul’ follows…
In the first two posts, ” I tried to gather the whole Archdiocese into my prayer…” and “We have the Apostle’s DNA deep inside…”, Bishop Mark invites us to journey with him and the other pilgrims as they step out in the footsteps of Paul. The places he invites us to meet on the way at this stage of the journey are mostly names which Bishop Mark refers to as “Missing steps in the Middle East”. We, at home, can recognize most of these not just from Paul’s letters but from listening to, or watching and reading our own twenty-first century daily news: Israel (Jerusalem); Lebanon (Antioch); Turkey (Galatia, Ephesus ), Syria (Damascus).
What can we now do? What can be our “at home” pilgrims’ action for these first steps of our pilgrimage?
First of all let our action be one of prayer. And for this first pilgrimage action let our prayer be for peace in the Middle East. Let us name at least one of these places that were part of Paul’s journeying and pray with Paul, “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to set us free from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory for ever and ever again. Amen. (Gal 1:3)”
