Our pilgrims this morning start the day with the celebration of the Eucharist at Athens.  Let’s continue to accompany them though our prayer and reflection.  Following on from our previous “action” post perhaps now, while continuing with our praying for peace we could add the following as a daily action: that for this day we shall pledge ourselves to one specific (named) action that will make peace a reality, in the home, at work, with another person with whom I find it difficult to talk to (or to listen to).

    Our prayer

For the best part of the coming week we shall focus our prayer around snippets from one or other of Paul’s letters, beginning, given the pilgrims’ itinerary, with his two letters to the Corinthians.  Paul obviously has a deep love for the Corinthians, a love that is strong enough and so deeply rooted in Christ that he has no hesitation in “telling them off” when they appear to be straying from his teaching.  What Paul wants for them is “a sincere and pure devotion to Christ (2 Cor 11:3b)”.  Is that what we want for ourselves?  And for one another?  Can this be our pilgrimage prayer for this coming week?  As a foundation for our prayer we can turn to Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians verses 12: 1 - 13:7..  As can happen, we may find that we need to stop after the first verse or two and just pray.  And if that, where or how the Holy Spirit is guiding us, then we had best just stay with those verses praying in whatever way we can till we feel the nudge to read on a bit further.

This is a wonderful program to highlight the importance of the life and ministry of Saint paul in the year dedicated to Saint Paul for his great contribution for the life of the Church, in the beginning and even now as well. I read and reflect about all the articles that I come across about St. Paul and his mission. when I was in the parish I took some initiative to make st.paul and his contribution known to the people. I find this program very enriching and rediscovering of my personal faith.
