Actions in the Footsteps of Saint Paul
29th June, 2009 - Posted by Sister Barbara -
As I was reading Ursula Stephens’ (thank you, Ursula) I was struck forcibly by her comments regarding Bishop Mark’s homily, Beyond the Sight, and his reminder to us that martyrdom still exists for many Christians today. I find myself thinking a lot of the challenge given the pilgrims - and consequently ourselves as virtual pilgrims - in this emphasis on martyrdom. For the word “martyr” really means being a witness to Christ, a witness in life as well as in death.
Hence, I suggest, as we pilgrims in the footsteps of Paul bring our pilgrimage to an end we take seriously the challenge given us by our Archbishop (as commented upon by Ursula): “We, too, must continue to be active in our faith to give life to the church in our parishes and our communities”.
So, I invite you to join with me as I ask myself the question posed: what way am I called’ in all the activities and relationships of my every day, to live as a martyr, a truly Christian witness to Jesus Christ? May we find nourishment for this other, probably more demanding form of pilgrimage, the pilgrimage of living our faith in the everyday! Peter and Paul, pray for us.

Thank you Sister Barbara for the invite. Certainly it is of great importance to reflect on how one is called to be a witnessin every day life as we journey together in this wonderful pilgrimage.
May we unite together in prayer.
